**What is Rummy?**

Rummy is a card game which is played among 2 to 6 players using two decks of cards. Rummy is one of the simplest of card games and can be understood quite easily. Now, when it’s all said and done, why don’t you try the game, and the next time make some valid sequences!

**Rules of Rummy & ****How to play Rummy**

Each player is assigned cards from two given piles. The player has to choose cards from an unknown deck . The player has to discard cards by own’s wish. This forms the second pile from which the card is chosen again. Now to win a rummy game, a player has to make two sequences. The standard sequence in the game is – Ace 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Jack Queen King. The values assigned to the cards are – Face Cards (K, Q, J) - 10 points, and Ace - 10 points. Ace is used as the first card to make a valid sequence.

To win a rummy game, the player has two create two valid sequence – Pure and Impure. A pure sequence is a set of three or more cards of the same suit in arranging order. But the main point here is the fact that if the player misses one of the consecutive cards, one can’t use any wild card such as a Joker to form that sequence. For the impure sequence, the rule is the same with one exception – here a wild card such as a Joker or a Queen can be used to fill the missing gap.

A valid set comprises of three or more cards of the same value but different suits. Wild cards can be used while forming sets. A valid example of declaring a sequence of 13 cards can be – 2♥ 3♥ 4♥ 5♥| 5♦ 6♣ 7♣ 8♣ |5♣ 5♣ PJ Q♥ Q♠. Once, a player has arranged 13 cards in two valid sequences, the player can make a declaration and win the game.

**What is a deck of cards?**

A deck of cards simply means a standard bundle of 54 cards (including 2 Jokers). There are 13 cards of each of the 4 types – clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades. Each type includes an ace, a king, queen and jack.

**What is a sequence?**

A sequence in the game of rummy is a group of 13 cards in a valid form. For example – Ace 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Joker Queen King.

**What is a suit?**

Suit indicate two black and two red set of cards – spades, clubs, hearts and diamonds.

**What is a pure sequence?**

A pure sequence is a group of three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order. The sequence cannot be formed using any wild card such as a Joker.

**What is an impure sequence?**

An impure sequence is a group of three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order. The sequence can be formed using one or more wild card/s such as a Joker or a Queen.

What is a Sequence

A Sequence is made by consecutive sequences of three or more cards of the same suit.

**What is a pure sequence?**

How to form a set?

**Points Game**

Points Rummy is a different type of 13 Cards Rummy, generally played for points with pre-determined rupee value. A player who makes the first valid declaration is declared as the winner of the game, assigning 0 points and wins all the cash based on the opponent’s total points.

**How to Play**

- A minimum amount has to be presented by the players on the table.
- To decide which player will make the first move, a toss in conducted.
- Like always, all players are dealt with 13 cards in a random fashion.
- The first card from the pack of cards is placed in the open deck to indicate that the game has started.
- The cards remaining are placed face-down to keep anonymity in the closed deck slot.
- A joker card is randomly selected at the beginning of each game.
- Printed Joker: The players can also use Ace card of any suit as a joker in their sets and / or sequences, if in case a Printed Joker is selected as the Joker for that game.
- Each player has to pick and/or discard cards from closed and/or open deck to complete sets and/or sequences.
- A player might use one or more Joker to complete his/her respective sets and/or sequences.
- One can also move a card to the finish slot to declare his/her sets and sequences.
- To make a declaration, a player must show the cards in hand by grouping them in sets/sequences, one of which must be a valid sequence.
- A major difference can be found in the case of two decks, a player cannot use the same card twice in a set for instance 7 ♠ 7 ♠ 7 ♥ is not said to be a valid set.

**Points & Score**

The first player who finishes the game while meeting the game objective is declared as the winner and gets 0 points. A player gets 20 points for dropping in his/her first move. For dropping after the first move, a player gets 40 points and the game continues till a single winner emerges. If a player makes valid declarations without meeting the game objective, he/she is penalized with 80 points and the game continues till there is a winner.

Points calculation for the player who loses:

As a standard, each card carries a certain number of points. The losing player gets points equal to his/her hand score which can be computed as follows:

- The J’s, K’s, Q’s and A’s of every suit carry 10 points each.
- All other numbered cards carry the same points as their face.
- Joker cards have null points.
- At the end of the game, a losing player's hand score is computed by adding points for cards that are not grouped as valid sets and/or sequences. There are a few exceptions, such as:
- If a losing player has no pure sequence in hand, all cards are counted for scores.
- If a losing player only has a valid pure sequence, it is not counted, although the other cards are counted.

- The maximum capped point which a player can get is 80.
- In case a player misses 3 consecutive turns, he/she is dropped automatically from the game. The player gets a middle drop score of 40 points.

**Total Score Calculation**

A player wins all the Cash in the end of each game. The score can be calculated as follows:

Winnings = (Sum of the points of all opponents) X (Rupee value of the points)

Deal Rummy

Deals rummy is a slightly enticing variation of Rummy game where a player is involved in a fixed number of deals. Each player is allotted a set number of chips in advance. The player who wins each deal is rewarded with the chips from the losing players. To win the prize pool, a player must win the most number of chips in value.

**How to Play**

Deals Rummy is usually played between 2 to 6 players using 1 or 2 deck/s of cards, which includes wild cards such as Printed Jokers. The format of the Deals Rummy game is quite alike to the Points Rummy game. A random toss is made to decide which player will make the first move. To form sets and sequences, a wild card can be used to replace other card/s. From the Open and Closed decks, each player has to choose the cards. During the gameplay, a player must arrange 13 cards into valid sets or sequences. The player who declares with a valid hand along with two sequences, is declared as the winner of the deal.

**Chips Allocation**

One can choose to play the best of 2, 3, 4 or 6 Deals. The number of deals decides the total value of all the chips in the game.

2 Deals – 160 Chips

3 Deals – 240 Chips

4 Deals – 320 Chips

6 Deals – 480 Chips

**Points Calculation**

The points of the chips decide the number of chips lost by a player. This is – 1 Point equal to 1 Chip. This can be simply put by this example – if a player loses 30 points, he loses 30 chips in that deal. There is no point for winning any particular deal, as the whole match is based on losing chips altogether. In case a player loses a deal, the points are calculated based on the assigned values of unmatched cards in his/her hands, on the condition of having a pure sequence compulsorily.

- Face Cards: All face cards, which includes Aces, Kings, Queens and Jacks, carry 10 points each.
- Numbered Cards: All other cards carry points based on their numerical value.
- Jokers: Jokers carry no value at all.

Irrespective of the total value of the cards, the maximum which a player can be penalized is 80 points in a single deal.

**Drop Points in Deals Rummy**

Drop points vary based on the number of players who join the table. In a 2-player game, one cannot drop out of the game. One automatically gets dropped out of the game after missing three consecutive moves. For games involving more than 2 players, 20 points is penalized for dropping on the very first move. If one drops during the game, he/she gets a middle drop of 40 points. On missing three consecutive turns, one gets 40 points.

**Points Calculation in Deals Rummy**

The formula mentioned ut infra is used to calculate the winner’s chips at the end of each deal:

Total Winnings = (Sum of points of all losing players) X (One Chip)

Pool Rummy

Pool Rummy is a variated version of 13-card Rummy. Every player has to pay a fixed entry fee for playing a cash game of Pool Rummy. Once the accumulated scores of players reach the maximum points limit at the table, they start getting eliminated. The winner of each deal wins null point and wins the prize Pool. The rules and gameplay of Pool Rummy is sort of similar to that of Points Rummy. The fact that there is an element of elimination in the game, makes it an intense and enjoyable game of Rummy.

**Elimination**

A game of Pool Rummy lasts longer due to the elimination factor. When a player loses a game, his/her losing points are carried to the next round. A simple explanation can be found in this example – in a 101 Pool Rummy game of six players, if a player tends to lose a game with 50 points, then his/her points are carried to the rounds further. If the same player loses another 60 points in the second round, he/she is automatically eliminated from the game, as his/her accumulated points are 110 (50+60), which is more than 101. As the game continues and all the players are eliminated except the one single player, who survives without accumulating 101 Pool Points is declared as the winner.

**Points**

The winner of the game gets zero points.The losing player gets points equal to the total of the points carried by the cards in his/her hand.

- A’s, K’s, Q’s and J’s of all the suits carry 10 points each.

- All the other cards in the suit carry the same points as their face value.

**Losing Points**

• If the losing player has tried to form two sequences including a pure sequence, then the points of the cards that are not arranged in sequences or sets are added up to calculate the points.

• If the losing fail to arrange the two sequences, then the points of all the cards are summed up.

• If a player successfully declares the game without completing the game, he/she gets 80 points.

• If a player misses three consecutive turns during the gameplay, he/she gets the score of middle drop, which is respectively – 40 points in 101 Pool Rummy and 50 points in 201 Pool Rummy.

The formula given below is used to calculate the winning amount in Pool Rummy:

**Winning Amount = (Entry Fee x Number of Players) – ‘Company Name’ Fee**

**Drop Score**

A player has the option to drop the game on his/her own discretion. Once a player drops from the game, he/she can join back in the next deal with the penalty of drop scores, which is as follows

Pool 101: First Drop – 20, Middle Drop – 40

Pool 201: First Drop – 25, Middle Drop – 50

**Re-join the Pool Rummy **

Players who are eliminated from a game of Pool Rummy have chance to re-join the game if the highest score among the players who are still in is less than or equal to 79 points in 101 Pool Rummy and 174 points in 201 Pool Rummy. One can re-join a game only after elimination and before the next deal begins.
